Gaining access to treatment is one of the biggest hurdles a person can face when starting down the path of recovery. Current estimates by the BC Centre on Substance Use indicate that as many as 83,000 people are battling substance misuse and with only 3,201 publicly funded treatment beds available, waitlists can be excruciatingly long.
There are private centres that offer treatment, however, costs can be prohibitive to many people. That is where ReWired Recovery Foundation steps in. ReWired raises funds to ensure people get into treatment when they are ready by offering support funding to cover treatment costs. To date, ReWired has raised close to $1M to provide support to those entering recovery and their loved ones.
Mike Manhas, executive director of ReWired Recovery Foundation, understands the challenges individuals in recovery face. After overcoming struggles with addiction that spanned 20 years, his mission is to support others to rewire their hearts and minds to achieve sobriety.
